To some manufacturers, retailers and even customers, value means getting flooring at the lowest price possible. But that misses the mark. You may save a few dollars on your purchase, but that will prove foolish if you are constantly spending additional money on maintenance, repairs and flooring replacements over time. At Domus Flooring and Stairs, we believe that value is getting the highest-quality product at the best price. To do that, look for manufacturers who are committed to product performance. Look for brand names from companies who aggressively improve their products and back their products with warranties. Real value comes at a cost, but so does buying strictly on price. Take a look at our hardwood flooring suppliers.
It all depends upon the species of hardwood involved. The Janka hardness test is used to measure the resistance of a sample of wood to denting and wear by measuring the force required to embed a 0.444” steel ball to half its diameter in wood. Generally speaking, the higher the rating, the harder the wood.
It all depends upon which type of flooring we’re talking about, as some types of flooring will require more maintenance than others. If you have hardwood flooring, weekly or biweekly cleaning with a broom or a wood cleaning product is the best solution. Avoid using water or vinegar as both of these will damage you flooring.
If you have vinyl flooring, regular cleaning with a soft brush or water and a neutral detergent is usually recommended.
If you have laminate flooring, it’s best to try a vacuum or dry mop. You may also wish to run a laminate cleaning solution on it every couple of weeks. Any exposure to water will damage the locking system of your laminate floor and may lead to squeaking and/or swelling.
No matter what type of flooring you have, always wipe up spills immediately when you notice them. Never use abrasive soaps, oils, waxes or ammonia-based cleaning products, as these may cause damage to your flooring.
